KADAMBUR

Formerly part of the Chirakkal Taluk, Kadambur derived its name from the abundance of Kadambu plants in the region. It remained a small locality until it was expanded to include areas like Orikara, Kottoor, Kannadichal, and Adoor. In the early days, a rigid caste system prevailed here, with land ownership concentrated among the Namboothiri and Nambiar lords. The educational advancement of the region began in the early 20th century through traditional village schools (*Kudippallikkoodams*) run by local teachers (*Naattashans*). Renaissance movements and popular struggles played a vital role in eradicating social inequalities and the caste-based hierarchy in the area.
